What this is
There is one question every week — it's not a knowledge question; it's the kind you can only answer when you get back to yourself. Each person writes down their answers during the week, then about once in your city: cook vegetarian dishes together, go to a vegetarian restaurant, have tea, coffee, or just walk around and spend the week in person.
The questions come from various traditions — Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, the Bible, the Stoics, and the ones Socrates actually asked. The source of each article is indicated, the original words are copied, and the words are not changed.
Who runs it
An Wangpeng, in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's not a company, it doesn't have investors, it doesn't sell anything, and it doesn't plan to grow big — the phrase “there aren't many people, and we don't plan to grow” on the homepage is serious.
Why “Fireside”
Jobs once said, “I would trade all my technology for an afternoon with Socrates.” This is what this stand is doing — get it done that afternoon. The words fireplace literally mean: around a fire, a circle of people, speak slowly.
How to get in
